MONO-THEISM = one true deity or god, meaning one ultimate original source of divinity or deity, the ultimate source of immortal life, who alone hath immortality. One God, the Father, of whom are all things.

"For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him." — 1 Corinthians 8:5-6

"The Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father, is truly God in infinity, but not in personality." — 20LtMs, Ms 116, 1905, par. 19 • EGW

"We know that Christ came in person to reveal God to the world. God is a person, and Christ is a person. Christ is spoken of in the Word as “the brightness of His Father’s glory, and the express image of His person.” [Hebrews 1:3.]" — Ms 46, 1904, par. 15 • EGW

"God is the Father of Christ; and Christ is the Son of God. To Christ has been given an exalted position. He has been made equal with the Father. All the councils of God are opened unto His Son." — Ms111-1903.5 • EGW

"The Eternal Father, the unchangeable one, gave his only begotten Son, tore from his bosom Him who was made in the express image of his person, and sent him down to earth to reveal how greatly he loved mankind. ..." — Review and Herald, July 9, 1895, par. 13 • EGW

God the Father ... IS all the fulness of the Godhead (deity, divinity, divine nature) bodily. The one true God, the Source of all being, the Great I AM, the Source of divine nature, the Most High God. God the Father has always existed. He is truly infinite. God sees the past, present and far distant future all in one glance. Isaiah 46:9-10. He is the divine Being of whom are all things. He is the divine Being who is above all, in all and through all. God is the great Creator and the God and Father of Christ, the divine, only begotten Son of God. God is a Spirit; a personal Being (personal divine form, not immaterial). Those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. John 4:23-24. God is love; God is, in Himself, in His essence, love. 1 John 4:8; 4:16. God the Father is the Sovereign of the Universe. "... the head of Christ is God." 1 Corinthians 11:3.

"God is the sovereign of the universe, and should we be ashamed to acknowledge our allegiance to him? The holy angels are engaged night and day in his service. The highest order of beings in all the universe bow before the throne of God with songs of grateful, joyous praise. Is there aught in such service that can detract from man’s true dignity? Saith the Lord, “Them that honor me I will honor.” The service of God is the highest, noblest work that can engage the powers of men or of angels." — Signs of the Times, November 3, 1881, par. 23 • EGW

"The first four of the ten commandments, which define our duty to God, are called the first table. God is to be placed high above all things in heaven and in earth. It should be distinctly understood that the Sovereign of the universe is above all. He is to be exalted as omnipotent." — Ms 17, 1906, par. 40 • EGW

The Son of God ... IS all the fulness of the Godhead (deity, divinity, divine nature) manifested. He is the pre-incarnate Son of God. Proverbs 30:4; Daniel 3:25. The Son is the divine Representative of the Father. John 1:14; 1:18. He is the Word of God who is from the beginning. Proverbs 8:22-23; John 1:1-4; 1 John 1:1-4; 1 John 2:13-14. He is the One by whom are all things. 1 Corinthians 8:6; Ephesians 3:9; Hebrews 2:10. He is the One who was called Micha'el (He who is like God) in heaven. Daniel 10:13; 10:21; 12:1; Jude 9; Revelation 12:7. He is the divine only begotten (born, brought forth; not created) Son of the one true and living God. Proverbs 8:22-31; John 3:16-18; 1 John 4:9. He is truly God (divine nature, deity) in infinity, but not in personality (personal identity). The Son, who is of God, was made in the express image of His Father's person. Hebrews 1:3. He was formed from a part of God Himself, eternal divine material, divine substance that always has been. The Son is truly one with God in nature, character and purpose. God dwells fully in His Son by the omnipresence of His divine Spirit or Life. He is the Anointed of God, the Christ or Messiah. God gave to His Son to have the fulness of His Spirit, His divine Life, in Himself. God exalted His Son to equality with Himself. In heaven the personality of the Son of God was clothed with the form of God, the very nature and presence of God, possessing God's wisdom, power, presence, life and glory (Spirit of God) without measure. To see the Son is to see the Father. John 14:9. The presence of the divine Son is as the presence of the Father. They are equal in power and authority. John 5:18; 1 Corinthians 1:24; Philippians 2:6. From eternity there was a complete unity between the Father and the Son. The Father and Son were two, yet little short of being identical; two in individuality, yet one in spirit, and heart, and character. The Son inherited His Father's divine attributes, His infinite character, His holy name (Jehovah, I AM). Jehovah is the name given to Christ. The divine Channel of God's immortal life and abundant blessings. The Father gave to His Son to have immortal life in Himself. John 5:26. The Father's life flows through His Son. John 6:57. He became the Son of God "in a new sense" when He came to earth and clothed His divinity with humanity. Thus He is the divine Son of God and the human Son of Man. The Son of God is the only being in all the universe who can enter into all the counsels and purposes of God. The omnipresent Spirit of Christ = the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, the Omnipresent. John 14:18; 14:23; Romans 8:9; 2 Corinthians 3:17; 1 Peter 1:11; 1 John 4:3; Revelation 3:20. The Son is the Sovereign of heaven.

"... the Son of God was the acknowledged Sovereign of heaven, one in power and authority with the Father. In all the counsels of God, Christ was a participant, while Lucifer was not permitted thus to enter into the divine purposes." — Great Controversy, p. 495.1 • EGW

"The Sovereign of the universe was not alone in His work of beneficence. He had an associate—a co-worker who could appreciate His purposes, and could share His joy in giving happiness to created beings. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.” John 1:1, 2. Christ, the Word, the only begotten of God, was one with the eternal Father—one in nature, in character, in purpose—the only being that could enter into all the counsels and purposes of God. “His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6. His “goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” Micah 5:2. And the Son of God declares concerning Himself: “The Lord possessed Me in the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I was set up from everlasting.... When He appointed the foundations of the earth: then I was by Him, as one brought up with Him: and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him.” Proverbs 8:22-30.The Father wrought by His Son in the creation of all heavenly beings. “By Him were all things created, ... whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him.” Colossians 1:16. Angels are God’s ministers, radiant with the light ever flowing from His presence and speeding on rapid wing to execute His will. But the Son, the anointed of God, the “express image of His person,” “the brightness of His glory,” “upholding all things by the word of His power,” holds supremacy over them all. Hebrews 1:3. “A glorious high throne from the beginning,” was the place of His sanctuary (Jeremiah 17:12); “a scepter of righteousness,” the scepter of His kingdom. Hebrews 1:8. “Honor and majesty are before Him: strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.” Psalm 96:6. Mercy and truth go before His face. Psalm 89:14." — Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 34.1-2 • EGW

The Holy Spirit ... comes IN all the fulness of the Godhead (deity, divinity, divine nature), making manifest the power of divine grace. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit/Life of God, the Spirit/Life of Christ. The Holy Spirit originates and proceeds from God the Father (John 15:26; Romans 8:11) and dwells fully in the only begotten Son of God (Colossians 2:9). The Holy Spirit comes to us in Christ's name (1 Corinthians 15:45; Galatians 4:6) as the Spirit of Christ, personating and representing the man Christ Jesus (John 14:22-23). Ellen G. White states, "We want the Holy Spirit, which is Jesus Christ." The Holy Spirit is called the Comforter (John 14:18; 14:26; 15:26; 1 John 2:1), the third person (omnipresence) of the Godhead (divine Father and divine Son), the power and grace of Christ, the Omnipresent, the Spirit of Life (Romans 8:2; Revelation 11:11), and brings to us the very Life of Christ, which is also the Life of God the Father, thus our fellowship in the Spirit is with the Father and the Son. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the indwelling of the spiritual presence and life of God and His Son (1 John 1:3).

In the Bible, Deuteronomy 6:4-5, we read what is called the Shema,

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might."

This scripture is a daily prayer for many people who are declaring their faith in the one God, Jehovah, the one true God of the bible, the Most High God, the great Source of all being. This important statement comes right after Deuteronomy 5 and the giving of the Ten Commandments. Jehovah is God's sacred name and it is also the name given to the Son of God by divine inheritance, as the first-born of heaven. The divine Son of God came to our world in His Father's name; the name Je-sus means Jehovah delivers or saves. Remember always that Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our faith. Without Him we can do nothing. Jesus must abide in us by His omnipresent Spirit, the Spirit of Christ, as the Comforter or Helper [parakletos], if we are to please God and keep His commandments from the heart. God is not looking for mere outward compliance, but rather true heart faith that works by love and purifies the soul.

"And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might."

The whole duty of mankind is to fear, respect, and love God and to keep His commandments, commandments that show supreme love to God and His beloved Son and love to our neighbor, all of God's created beings (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14). Fallen man has no ability to keep the holy, just and good commands of God or to love God apart from the powerful divine indwelling Spirit of Christ. Thus, Christ in you is the hope of glory and the central theme of true Christianity. It is Christ's righteousness alone that gives us access to the kingdom of God and eternal life upon the earth made new. See Christ and His Righteousness by E. J. Waggoner and the book Faith and Works by Ellen G. White to better understand this most important truth.

In heaven it is God Himself and God's beloved only begotten Son that are worshipped. The Son was called Michael in heaven and this name means, "He who is like God." It is God and His only begotten Son who created all things together; "The Father that dwelleth in Me, He doeth the works." John 14:10. When God said in Genesis 1:26, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness," it was God, the Supreme divine Being, who was speaking to His fully divine, only begotten Son. God the Father is the Source of creation, life, love and all things wonderful; and the divine Son is the holy Channel by whom and through whom God works and created all things in their beauty and perfection. All things were made by and for the Son of God—God's co-Worker, His divine Associate. It is God and His Son that gave the ten commandment law on Mount Sinai. The Son is called the Logos or the Word. The Son speaks forth and echos His Father's creative thoughts, for He is as the mind of God. He perfectly represents His Father because He is little short of being identical to the Father and the divine omnipresent Spirit of God dwells in Him fully and guides Him continually. The Son of God has all the divine attributes of His Father. He is fully divine, not a lesser god or being as some teach. God has exalted His Son to equality with Himself.

What is true biblical monotheism? Is it that there is only one God/divine being in the universe? Or is it that there is, as Scripture states: "one God, the Father, of whom are all things", which we are shown so clearly in 1 Corinthians 8:6? In 1 Corinthians 8:5 we read that there are "gods many and lords many." Satan is called the god of this world. Angels, judges and magistrates are called god [elohim] in the Bible. Moses was as God [elohim] to Pharaoh. He was God's representative, a mighty one on earth sent to Pharaoh.

Exodus 7:1, "And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god [elohim] to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet."

Thomas said to Jesus, "My Lord and my God." So, is Jesus God? (John 1:1-4; 1 John 1:1-4)

Jesus is truly God in infinity, but not in personality. Jesus is of God and He is never called God the Son in Scripture or the writings of Ellen G. White. His nature is that of God Himself, for He is the only begotten Son of the one true and living God. He was formed of uncreated divine material, a part of God Himself. He is filled with all the fulness of the Godhead (divinity) bodily, thus the Spirit of His Father dwells in Him without measure or limit. He is clothed with God's own light and glory and He was made in the express image of His Father's person. In heaven He bore the form of God. On earth He bore the form of man, of fallen humanity. A divine Spirit dwelt in a temple of flesh. The second or last Adam was made a quickening, life giving, spirit. Ellen G. White states, "It is not safe to catch the spirit from another. We want the Holy Spirit, which is Jesus Christ." She also states, "Christ is to be known by the blessed name of Comforter."

In Galatians 2:20, it is written, "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."

Jesus declared in John 14:18, "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you."

Jesus has a dual nature, thus He is called the Son of God and the Son of Man. He is both fully divine and fully human. Christ was the Son of God in heaven "from the beginning" and when He came to our world He became the Son of God "in a new sense." He was then clothed with the personality of humanity, yet He was still the divine Son of God. Jesus is omnipresent by the spiritual manifestation of His divine Spirit—the Spirit of Christ, the Comforter, the Omnipresent. We have fellowship with God and His Son through the omnipresence of Their divine Spirit. There is one God, one Lord, and one Spirit. In Romans 8:9 we read, "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his."

In 1 John 1:3, it is written, "That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ."

The key thing to note here is that in personality or personal identity there is one divine Being that is called God by name and that is God the Father. The divine Being we call God is the God and Father of all, for it is He who is above all. God is the God and Father of Jesus Christ; He is the head of Christ. So yes, Jesus is a divine Being as well as a human being, and He can be properly called God, but in identity or personality He is identified in Scripture as the Son of God. He is the first-born of heaven, the true divine Son of the Most High God. The Son is OF GOD and His personality as the divine Son had a beginning, while His divine nature or substance always has been, since it is in reality a part of God Himself. God gave to His Son to have immortal life in Himself, thus He is called the eternal Son, the self-existent Son. See John 5:26.

The presence of the divine Son is as the presence of God the Father because the Son is the express image of the Father, He is the perfect picture or representation of God the Father. Jesus said in John 14:9, "He that hath seen Me hath seen the Father" and in John 10:30, "I and My Father are one" and in John 6:57, "I live by the Father." The divine Jesus and God the Father are one in nature, character and purpose. Jesus is filled with the fulness of God and is called the Anointed One because God's Spirit fills Him. Jesus does nothing of Himself alone. He lives to please His Father, by doing always His will, the will of Him whom He loves so fully and completely.

So monotheism, one God, refers to God the Father. It does not refer to the so-called trinity god that is mysteriously made up of three divine persons. When you read Scripture pay close attention to whom it is that is regularly called God. For example ... In Revelation 22:1, it is God and the Lamb that sit upon the throne of the universe. The trinity doctrine actually destroys the individual personality of God and of Christ. It makes them one god being instead of two individual divine Beings.

What of the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ, the Omnipresent, the Comforter, etc. It is represented by fire, oil, water, wind, breath, dove, etc. Jesus breathed upon His disciples and said in John 20:22, "Receive ye the Holy Spirit." The Holy Spirit is the spiritual life that originates from God the Father and comes to us in Christ's name through the Son of God. It is the Father's life, the life that dwells fully in His Son. Thus by the Spirit  we receive the very life of Christ, divine eternal life. Remember that everything good originates from the Father and comes to us in and through His beloved only begotten Son.

In summary, we worship the one true God, the Source of all being, in the divine Being called God the Father; and we worship and honor God's divine only begotten Son in the man Christ Jesus, who is fully divine and fully human. God Himself has exalted His divine Son to equality with Himself and He commands us to honor the Son as we honor the Father. Thus the presence of the Son is as the presence of the Father. The Father is all the fulness of the Godhead bodily and the Son is all the fulness of the Godhead manifested. The Holy Spirit comes in all the fulness of the Godhead, making manifest the power of divine grace. The Holy Spirit is the very life of God as it is manifested in and through His Son Jesus Christ. The word Christ or Messiah means the Anointed One, and Jesus is fully anointed with the very life of God, the indwelling Spirit of God.

In John 5:22-23, it is written, "For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him."

Romans 8:2, "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."

1 Corinthians 15:45, "And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam [Jesus] was made a quickening [life giving] spirit."

"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."

The Story of Redemption

by Ellen G. White [1827-1915]

In the mid-nineteenth century Ellen White experienced a series of visions concerning “the great controversy of the ages between Christ and Satan.”  These visions inspired a small work entitled Spiritual Gifts, which was later expanded into a four-volume work, The Spirit of Prophecy. Later this material was further amplified and published in the five-volume Conflict of the Ages series.

The Story of Redemption contains the heart of The Spirit of Prophecy, with additional material. In chronological order it covers God’s dealings with humanity from the primordial fall of Lucifer to the new earth, with behind-the-scenes glimpses often supplying details not found in Scripture.
